The Honda Pilot is a very common and well-known family SUV. Many Honda owners swear by the brand itself, and rightfully so because Hondas are known for being affordable and reliable. In the case of any vehicle, the Pilot does have some problems you might want to know about, though to be fair, bringing a vehicle to an experienced mechanic like ours at Holland Auto means you’ll be able to catch these problems early. Brakes & Rotors
Along with other Honda models, the brake system and potentially original rotors installed on a Honda Pilot can have a problem warping. Warping is the result of metal being too weak to handle pressure and heat.
If the rotors on your Honda Pilot do warp, you’ll hear a shuddering or vibration sound while braking from the brakes being misapplied. To be honest, the sound could just be your brakes wearing out – but regardless, bring your Pilot into us at Holland Auto Care and we’ll go through your vehicle’s braking system and ensure you are safe to get home.
Wiring and headlight problems
Wiring harnesses can be very tricky to get just right. With the number of wires powering and communicating within our vehicles, they can get hot and have problems. If you notice your low beams getting a bit dim, the problem can stem from a wire within the harness getting too hot and not sitting quite right.
Holland Auto Care can investigate issues like this, look at the headlight as well as the harness, and clear things up so you can see better at night in your Pilot.
D4 Check Engine Light
D4 is the light you see, but the reference is actually to your transmission. Oddly enough – as is the case with the check engine light on average, this is either an instance of a faulty sensor or a literal transmission failure. If you notice this light go off and the transmission is acting funky – and kicks or revs while trying to accelerate, you may have an actual problem.
The other potential issue here remains a sensor which either needs calibration or replacing and can be annoying just from a time perspective.
Fuel Injector Failures
The fuel injectors on the 2016 and later Honda Pilot can fail prematurely – usually around 100,000 miles. Fuel injectors are like fuel pumps and are responsible for delivering fuel to the engine. You might hear a whine and feel a loss of performance which ultimately ends with your Pilot being unable to start.
Conclusion
