Start-Stop System Issues
The start-stop system for many vehicles including the Audi A3 is in place to save some gas while sitting idle at a stoplight or in traffic. The car can automatically turn itself off then back on again once you are ready to hit the gas.
A known issue with the Audi A3 prevents power steering from turning on right away and brake systems from fully engaging when the start-stop is functioning, preventing drivers from having complete control of the steering wheel and brakes in some scenarios.
If this happens for you, bring your Audi A3 to us at Holland Car Care Care right away. You never know when you’ll get stuck in traffic.
Ignition Coils
The ignition coils on an Audi A3 have been known to go bad under 100,000 miles. The result will be a misfiring engine which leads to slower acceleration and overall performance in addition to a likely check engine light.
These are replaceable, of course, and we at Holland Car Care Care will gladly help diagnose this problem.
High Pressure Fuel Pump Failures
The high pressure fuel pump can fail, leading to the Audi A3 being unable to deliver proper amounts of gas when you try to accelerate. You might hear a whining sound as the high pressure fuel pump fails, so this one might be a little more obvious as the symptoms are similar to your ignition coil issues.
A complete fuel pump failure will result in no fuel delivered to the engine, so the vehicle just won’t start.
Transmission Issues
While Audi A3 transmissions are known for smooth shifting under acceleration, they can also wear out. The A3 can develop slow shifting and even a grind or a clunk between gears which makes the A3 harder to drive like a performance car. We suggest getting potential transmission issues checked out as soon as possible to avoid the need for further work or replacements.
Throttle System Fault
The Audi A3 may experience acceleration and power issues due to electrical connection issues within the throttle system. The fix for this involves potentially replacing or re-doing the power harness within the throttle system so it can deliver more consistently.
Conclusion
We still love Audi A3s and feel they are totally worth the problems they can present. Our suggestion is to bring your Audi A3 to us at Holland Car Care for regular maintenance so we can potentially catch these issues before they become a more inconvenient problem. At Holland Car Care, we know Audis well and offer shuttle services, rental cars, and of course, factory certified technicians.
